The Next Organisation has had a new colleague on board since this quarter: Bauke Wijnands, who is carrying out his graduation project at the Bussum-based strategic consultancy.

Bauke Wijnands is currently pursuing a master's degree in Operations Management & Logistics at Eindhoven University of Technology. "I chose The Next Organisation as my graduation place because of my interest in designing business models for different parties as well as modelling dynamic systems," Bauke indicates.

Here's the thing: The Next Organisation (TNXTO) is a strategic consulting firm specialising in commercial transformation and innovation. The agency helps many clients at home and abroad to renew and optimise their business models.

"I have always looked at digital platforms like Airbnb, Uber and Booking with great admiration. They are marketplaces - they don't sell a product but just bring supply and demand together."

The business model of such parties is characterised by a number of well-known pillars. One is the winner-takes-it-all trait: there is room for only a few, if not, one player to become so powerful and recognisable that the entire market uses the platform.

Another feature is that boundaries are increasingly blurring between platforms. This is due to changed consumer behaviour, but also stems from commercial drivers. "When multiple parties participate in a business model, a dynamic system of value exchanges between these parties is created. In this, the value of the sum can be higher than the individual parts."

It is precisely on that theme that Bauke will be conducting research. "During my research, I will design a framework that can be used to model a network of organisations as a dynamic whole."

Now six weeks on board, Bauke feels completely at home at The Next Organisation. "I experienced the first weeks as very pleasant. After having an introductory meeting with everyone, I immediately felt at home in the organisation and the further start-up process went relatively easily. The atmosphere is professional, but also very approachable. This ensures hard work, but also that the lines of communication between everyone are short and there is a lot of energy in the group."

"Outside of work, there is also a lot of activity, which contributes to the fun atmosphere in the company. I am looking forward to the upcoming time at Next Organisation, and I hope to achieve a great result."
